I am home-dying my hair dark copper red. What is the best way to do this?

Hi, I've been dying my own hair at home for a couple of years now, and I've decided to go a dark, deep kind of coppery pomogranate red. I was wondering what the best way to go about this would be. My hair is about medium length, very thick in texture, but stick straight with fine hairs. It's a medium brunette, my skin is very fair and I have hazel eyes. I've dyed my hair many diffrent shades but I've never gone red before, does anyone have any good suggestions of ways to go about this. I plan to home-dye my hair.

first of all know that red colours always fade, red copper wont stay in your hair. the colour u see on the box wont look the same when u put it on your hair because you had many shades on it already. when colouring your hair start colouring where your hair is most resistant. colour it how they do in a salon...part hair into 4 section from ear to ear and from forhead to nape... start at the front section. have someone help you

You want to become a ginger? All you need now are green contact lenses and 10,000 freckles.

Please, be careful and consider saving up for a trip to the salon.

I tried this once as a natural brunette. I used Natural Instincts. It turned my hair this pukey violet shade that was certainly not the dark copper I was aiming for.

Im assuming your using nothing with 20 vol peroxide in it? Youll have to use a semi perm color if your going darker..Start from scalp, then to the shafts, pull the color thru to the ends last 10 min of processing. The reason you leave the ends out till the last, is so the the color doesnt grab right away and make the ends darker than the rest of your hair...

Red ("ginger") Hair. Do you get called names?

I was wondering how many of you out there get called names such as "ginger" or "carrot top" by some people who seem to find so called "ginger" hair hilarious, and like to make fun of people with it.

Red ("ginger") Hair. Do you get called names?

Only 2 % of the people in the world are red heads, and there will be no more natural red heads by the year 2100, so a "ginger" is a rare and wonderful find indeed !!

Red ("ginger") Hair. Do you get called names?

I don't have that colour hair, but I think it's really cool. I know some people though who get called 'carrot top' or 'red head' stuff like that.

Red ("ginger") Hair. Do you get called names?

i dyed my hair red once got called bozos sister, carrot top but i let it go through one ear and out the other. red hair is more in style now days any ways.

im called carrot tops but i dont find it mean at all

i just think of it thank god i have red hair cause not alot of others do

Red ("ginger") Hair. Do you get called names?

My hair is bright Lucille Ball orange red as is my girlfreinds

and my boyfriends.

Never had much problem with name calling(Well, the Wendys thing...).

I get hit upon alot for dates though...

I'm Asian, have black hair with a little red in it from last time. I want to either dye or high

I just tried Funky Cherry Loreal Pulse, and that didn't work at all. Last time I think I used ruby Rush Loreal Feria, that worked but a bit too red for me. What's a good color I can use, doesn't have to be from Loreal can be from any brand, but I don't have a lot of money to spend on it?

I think I want reddish highlights, but more importantly I want to know what colors will actually show on my hair. I don't think I want to bleach my hair, last time with Feria I didn't and it showed.

I'm Asian, have black hair with a little red in it from last time. I want to either dye or highlight my hair..

My sister's hair is jet black and she uses the feria for red streaks as well. The problem, in my opinion, is that the color fades over time and she's left with orange streaks instead of red. I think with hair as dark as yours, you should try to avoid permanent haircolor all together if you want to do it yourself. Try the color mousses that wash out over so many shampoos...they won't do any damage to your hair that you'll regret later. You'll need one with very vibrant color for darkest brunettes (I know how exasperating it can be; my hair is brown-black and very few colors will even show up in it).

My advice is to stick with the temporary while you're budget conscious. When you have plenty of money to blow, go to the hairdresser and let them do it professionally and they'll make sure the color stays true for a much longer time. Good luck!

My hair is orange red from the bleach I bought toner will it make my hair turn to a light blond?

My hair is half blonde and half red orange.Only my roots turned blond blond. My hair was a pitch black.Should I use toner to take it out?

My hair is orange red from the bleach I bought toner will it make my hair turn to a light blond?

A toner really only works well if your hair is bleached very light. It sounds like your hair is not light enough.

You can either lighten it more, which may totally damage your hair or dye it a darker color that will help cover the reddish color. Use a color with ash as it helps tone down brassy red. I am going by my own experiences

Good Luck!

My hair is orange red from the bleach I bought toner will it make my hair turn to a light blond?

Your hair obviously has a red base to it, so you probably won't be able to completeley bleach it all out. The idea is to bleach it untill you get it close to blonde, then use a toner (ash blonde colour), which will cover the orange and give you the desired effect.

I would go to a salon and get it fixed. It's called color correction. I had a similar problem trying to go from a dark brown to a dark blonde color and my roots turned out such a different color. I went to a salon and they used bleach then a toner and i got a nice dark blonde and light blonde highlighting job done. Search around and go to a salon that you think you can trust because it really is worth the money to get a dark to light coloring job done at a salon instead of at home.

I have just been through the same thing, i have gotten my hair light from jet black, i recommend you colour over the orange tones with a brown, wait a few weeks and then have all over highlights done, build the blonde gradually, every few weeks re-highlight your hair, it took 3 months for me to achieve light hair from very black. Black to blonde is not something that (without hair extensions due to breakage and hair loss through continual bleaching) can be done over night. Do it gradually and build it up.

What is the best hair dye in stores for making my hair a lighter red?

I used Loreal 4r to make my hair a darker red, but I am now

trying to lighten my hair back to it's original light red. I had a

golden red color, a little like strawberry blond. Can anyone

tell me which dye would best do this without making my hair

orange or copper? I tried a lighter Loreal but it made my hair

look like it been washed by a penny!!! Please help!

What is the best hair dye in stores for making my hair a lighter red?

Oooh no! I see someone suggested Feria, don't do it! Feria is high in sulfates which completely trashes your hair-- even more so for red tints since red is quicker to wash out of your hair. I highly suggest Garnier Fruitese! It comes with a little packet of fruity oil essence stuff that you add to the dye mix. I love it! Huge selection of colors, too.

Try a prelightner for approx 5 min then wash it off.

Feria always worked for my friend. She dyes it red all the time and it always looks great!

Herbal Essence or Garnier Fructis works really good. You just have to make sure that is has ammonia in it. Get a light golden red, or a strawberry blonde. Or, my mom uses Color Expert in red, it has highlights and all. But it's like $20. It's worth it......

ther is a 1 800 number on the back of the box with stylists on call that are willing to help you, they can tell you what to do much better , it is hard for me to say without actually seeing your hair's color. They may even offer you a refund, Remember if your hair is not clean when you apply a dye your desired color may be altered. That means no oils creams hair sprays leave-ins nothing.

My family uses ketchup.

How do I stop my hair from turning red (reddish tint) from using relaxers?

Okay, I'm guilty! I over relax my hair. It's really course and no relaxer is a match against it. Anyhoo, this causes my hair to have a reddish tint to it that I don't like to begin with, and what's worse is that this reddish tint doesn't even look natual. So what can I do, or use that'll retain my hair's orginal color when over relaxing? (And I don't want to dye my hair back to its natual color either b/c that process is messy... etc. Also, I've tried all kinds of different relaxers to no avail. And if I want to retain the texture of it, the way I like, then I find I have to frequently relax my hair, and like I said... that's why my hair has that reddish tint.) Pls help w/some suggestions on how to "get the red out", or better yet... how to prevent it in the first place.

Colour It! =)

How do I stop my hair from turning red (reddish tint) from using relaxers?

Relaxers can be VERY harsh. What is happening is that it is either lightening your natural color due to over-processing, or it is stripping out old hair color you have on your hair.

You could use a semi-perm color to tone it back to a more natural color.

How do I stop my hair from turning red (reddish tint) from using relaxers?

Prevention: stop overrelaxing your hair, it's gonna cause your hair to break off because it's gonna be dry %26amp; damaging. Your hair does not have to be coarse; deep condition your hair once a week to improve it's texture. Also, your hair always turns color when you have a relaxer. My hair is naturally soft black with brown %26amp; red undertones, when I relaxed my hair it turned brown with red highlights.

get the red out: your hair probably has red undertones, you say it doesn't look natural but that's probably due to the overprocessing. if you relaxed your hair properly you would probably just get natural looking red highlights. maybe you should get a toner to tone the red down, but that would probably dry your hair out even more.

Any ideas on how to color my hair light blonde with getting ready of the gold %26amp; red?

If your hair grabs onto, red %26amp; gold when colored.. any idea how to color your hair a really light blonde?

I had the same problem and today I went to a beauty school and they bleached it out and put a toner on it in a blonde shade. Last time I went they tried to get the red and gold out without the bleach but it did not come out just looked somewhat better but today it looks good so I think bleaching is only way to go as it was the only thing I was told I could do.

Go to a salon and get it bleached. But I'm not sure if you can only get parts bleached or not (If that's what you're talking about)
