Does peroxide really color your hair red? And how?

Yes, too much peroxide will cause your hair to turn red. Once, I changed the color of my hair four times in two weeks. The fourth time, it turned blood red. I then ran to the drug store to talk to my pharmacist and she informed me that, my hair had reached its pigmentation. My beautician had to cut all of my hair off, for it to start off at a new beginning. Now I use a rinse, that carries no peroxide. This is only my experience. Someone else may be able to better advise you.

Hydrogen peroxide alone can make ur hair color into copper if its black, but basically it bleaches the hair.

When I was a teenager~ about 35 years ago, I applied peroxide to my hair and left it on for awhile. It turned my hair orange/red. It wasn't good! My natural hair color is a medium brown color with auburn highlights. I think it also dried my hair out. Peroxide is used in hair coloring products today, and here is an explanation on how it works in the dyes~

"Almost all coloring products that lighten hair contain some amount of hydrogen peroxide. This colorless liquid achieves two major actions. It will first break down the natural melanin in the hair shaft which instantly "lifts" the color of the hair making it lighter. The peroxide also releases oxygen, which combines with the dye molecules and helps them to develop and deposit color. The depositing part is important for covering gray."

I got the above quote from this website~

IT BLEACHES YOUR HAIR. MY FRIEND HAIR IS DARK BROWN AND SHE RUBBED PEROXIDE ON HER ENDS AND IT TURNED A GOLDISH COLOR NOT EXACTLY BLONDE.
