Why is ash blonde dye turning my hair red?

Did you start out as brown hair? If so, you probably have a lot of natural red highlights. The ash blonde has stripped out the brown, leaving the red exposed (and heightened).

I don't know but ash blonde turned mine a caramel-gray color!!

Well if it is the stuff fron wal-mart then you might want to read the label on the side because some cloors are just made for CERTAIN hair colors

Natural red pigments in your hair.

Because home dye kits are generally not strong enough to truly bleach darker hair.

You probably have a lot of red undertones in your natural color (medium to dark brown I would guess)

If you have darker hair, you could try a lighter shade of blonde, but know that it may turn your hair quite brassy.

It is really hard to get darker hair blonde with a home dye kit. The best I can get is a strawberry blonde shade.

But at $8 or less a pop, its a lot cheaper than the salon every 4 weeks.
