If your hair is naturally black or dyed black getting your hair color to red will be somewhat difficult. First you will need to strip your hair of the black hair color. Then you will have to dye it red after that. If you try to dye red over black nothing will come of it. You MAY get a reddish sheen to your hair, MAYBE, but it won't be anything bold or spectacular.
If you want to go to a bold red or natural red I would strongly suggest going to a professional for the job. Stripping and bleaching black hair can completely destroy the hair if not done correctly. Even when done correctly it is not a very healthy thing to do. No matter what you do, don't try this at home!
