I put in a dark auburn and it fades to a medium auburn, which is fine. Also, use shampoos and conditioners formulated for red hair. make sure you get red dye that's meant for dark hair. and no it won't hurt hair that is growing in. that's just silly. the hair that is dyed however is damaged, can't be stopped, but it can be helped. get shampoo and conditioner for hair that has been dyed red. also, make sure to get some kind of restorative conditioner to use when you run out of the once a week stuff that come with the dye (or to use if you get it done professionally)
