I want to dye my hair red is over the counter dyes ok to use?

Yes. BUT make sure you really want it to be red first! I did mine red after having blonde my whole life and it took a lot of bleaching and coloring to get it back to blonde!

Do not use over the counter colours for red, because your hair will turn orange, sort of like blonde turns green sometimes. If you want, try a dark auburn and maybe that will give you the color you are looking for.

I dye my own hair at home using "over-the-counter" hair dyes. You may want to try a semi-permanent dye if it is your first time. You could also have a friend help you to make sure you get all of your roots. Make sure you wash any dye off of your skin immediately that gets on it. Sometimes it will dye your skin.

When you use over the counter hair color, the box has no idea what hair color or hair type it is really starting out with! That's why if you go to a professional they know what level you need to get your hair to the color that you are looking for. By the type of hair you have, your hairs condition and your hairs color.

It would be a good idea to be careful about choosing a OTC dye. Some of the cheaper ones can seriously damage your hair (some people I know have had their hair fall out in clumps as a result). I'd be more inclined to have it done by a pro.

For best results go to Sallly's beauty supply or some other beauty supply store, (they sell products to hairdressers) and tell the clerk what you're trying to achieve, the clerks at these places are licensed hairdressers.

I would be careful, because some people either are not interested in red hair or they can be afraid because they are blonde, so be careful.

I just dyed my hair yesterday since I got tired of my boring dark golden brown. I went to Sally Beauty Supply and got Ion Color Brilliance Permanent Cream Hair Color in Light Burgundy Brown since I have olive skin color. It came out dark but when in the sun I get this really cool red aura! You can also find there Clairol Complements in either semi permanent or permanent. I recommend you use the semi permanent light red 6R and add the RED boost. I will come out really cool and it will go away as you wash your hair but be careful since if your hair to light and damage and you don閳ユ獩 want a permanent commitment the pigment wont fade that easily. Anyhow if you insistent in going with over the counter products I highly recommend Feria by Loreal for permanent results or Casting in Caution Red. The latest really conditions your hair and gives you a really cool red color. When going for permanent color remember that dye can not light previous dyes so if your hair was processed before and you want to lighting it wont happen so try don閳ユ獩 go too light if you hair is dark or you will end up with light hair in the roots and darker ends. If your hair is naturally dark and you want to go lighter I recommend then that you go for Loreal High Lift since it does not give you does brassy tones and it lift your hair up to 3 -4 level in one single process. I tried the intense red once and it did stop traffic! So dare to be different because Red Heads sure have more fun!
