I tried dying my hair red-it turned almost black-how do i lighten it, and what did i do wrong?

Sounds like your hair's grabbing too much color - either your hair's been dyed too much before, is damaged and dry at the ends, or you left the color on too long.

Fixing this problem will be tricky. It's best to let a professional deal with this type of thing, but if you're really feeling bold, you could try the Clairol Uncolor. Clairol also has an 800 number to help you deal with color issues and questions.

Good luck!!

Maybe like go to your closest store and buy some lemon, and also wash and wash I read this book and it seems it would work!

Good Luck!

you probably got a burgundy dye, wash your hair like 30 times, buy a bleaching kit to use, and buy a lighter shade of red to use after wards. or if you have to money go to the salon.

after you are done you can use olive oil to get your hair back into shape. soak your hair in heated olive oil and let it set for an hour. wrap your hair in a towel. then shampoo it out.

My name is Tracy...a stylist. GO TO A SALON.

Chances are, you already had color on your hair prior to coloring it red. Color on top of color ALWAYS makes the color darker.

The only way to correct this is to either decolorize or lighten. They sounds the same, but any professional (should be able to) tell you that decolorizing is shrinking and washing out the color molecules and lightening is bleaching them.

Both processes can be very damaging!!!! And you can damage your hair a whole lot real quick. This is not something you should undertake yourself at this point. You will likely be left with two inches of hair after it all falls off. Seriously. I've seen it. And it's not pretty.

Stylists have been trained thruough school and product knowledge sessions, so we know what chemicals are in the products we use and how those chemicals react to other products. Chances are, going to your salon (or a salon if you don't have a regular one...bad girl....lol) will prevent the extreme damage you will do to yourself.

Of course, damage happens after every coloring procedure. But usually, the damage we do is correctable over a short period of time and your stylist should recommend products to correct the damage instead of letting you go to Sally's or Wal-Mart to find something on your own...which probably either won't work or do more damage. If your stylist doesn't suggest a product...ASK.

you probably left it on to long you could bleach the color out of it then add more color

It sounds like your hair grabbed too much color, it was probably overprocessed, maybe previously bleached out, so when you tried to color it red, it deposited too much pigment. I would not recommend you trying to fix this on your own. I would get a haircut and have a professional take care of the color correction.
