Dying hair from black to red?

In order to lighten your hair from black, u need to "color cleanse" or strip it first, which can be tricky if hair is banded from coloring. Color wont lift color, so if u apply a red color over the black u will getb red roots and still have black hair. Go see a professional to have it done right.

color remover first!!

you're going to have to bleach it first, i have VERY dark brown hair and had to bleach mine twice before any color would stick in it.

Well what you need to do is bleach it first, but black is a really hard color to lift out of your hair,so you may need to bleach it 2 or 3 times. If you have to bleach it more than once, you should wait at least 24 hours in between each time you bleach it otherwise it will really damage your hair.

Hope I helped!

you might want to go to a salon...because they have to strip your hair color...then they have to dye it to the red you want it....if you do it your self you could damage it.....

i did the same thing.... i had my hair black and wanted to get the bottom Blondie...

they had to strip my hair to almost white so that the color would absorb and stay

you are going to have to bleach it or get Color Oops by loreal. i have been dying my hair black for a year and i tried to dye it red, and it only did the roots and it looked horrid. i even waited 3 months to dye it brown. and again, it just did the roots. it sucks, i know lol. i am keeping it black though cause i do not want to damage my hair by bleaching it. you can try this: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002...

be warned, it has good and BAD reviews. hope this helps!

I would seriously suggest having that done at a salon. It is really difficult to do and very harsh on your hair. Trust me! I dyed my hair blond, red, brown etc etc etc for years at home and it finally caught up with me! I have been cleaning my hair up for 2 years now and it's finally cleared up!

Use a bleaching agent (example Blondissimma) from a drug store. Comb it through your hair so that you don't end up with one solid colour. Then use a solid light brown.

Then go to the hairdresser and get blonde highlights and red lowlights.

This will look the most natural, since natural red is actually a bunch of different colours.

best advise go see a professional and get it done there....

Dying hair from black to red?

you will have to get a colour remover, a few applications of this and i would then pull through some cap highlights then apply an all over colour.

you don't really have much a choice but to bleach it, especially if you've been dying it for 4-5 years. You're hair's probably fully "grabbed" the colour black and it's really in there.

Bleaching your hair is so bad for your hair, it practically kills it and leaves no life or shine in it.

I would suggest you not to dye it red but if you must, you'll have to bleach it, because the black is much too dark to "grab" any other colour other then, well, black. If you're natural colour is a lighter one, instead of bleaching maybe you should let it grow out and then dye the red.

hope this helps. =)
