See, I have a chestnut colored hair and I want my natural color to be on top but have a different color underneath. I want it to stand out but not be tacky. So should I dye my hair a shade of red or black?

with chestnut black would make more sense, red might just make it clash, and also red hair is hard to maintain and will turn orange, and well orange and chestnut definitely don't mix!

Black would be going deep and red is sorta spunky.....it depends on your personality and how you wanna express the look. If it were me I'd go for black only because of my skin tone and sometimes that's just the mood I'm in. It's not necessarily depressing but bold. Red would show that you don't care what people think (but if you go with red definitely make sure it's the right shade so it doesn't come off as tacky).

Well I have to tell you a storey of dyeing hair black. My daughter was a natural chestnut brown ,so she dyed her hair black and it looked really good she wore it black for about three years. Well just last week she decided that she didn't want black hair any more so we went to the hair dresser and my daughter wanted to go back to chestnut brown with some blond streaks. The hair dresser said that she would be unable to do that so to make a long storey short the hair dresser said that she would be able to do a dark drown ,so the hair dresser put bleach on her hair and spent three hours on my daughters hair and i spent one hundred and fifteen bucks only to be pissed off all said and done my daughter still had the black , red and brown (Not bad ) but you could see hunks in all directions it look like (.....) so just think before you do your hair black I think she would have been better off letting it grow out or just keeping it black.
