I see no reason why not, as hair color is a personal preference. You might want to try a temporary highlighter (there are many on the market that wash out after one shampoo or as many as 20) as a test drive first to see if you like like the effects on you. There is nothing worse than being stuck with a hair color you hate or worse yet, getting impatient with waiting for enough time to pass, try to correct it yourself and end up having your hair come out by the handfuls due to over-processing.
If someone you know or have seen has the effects you like, I would ask them what salon and their colorist's name and ask for that person when you go. If you have never colored your hair before, I would recommend having it done professionally at least the first time.
If you choose to do it yourself don't skip doing a patch/strip test and time it until you have acheived the degree of color/shade you want before applying to your whole head and be especially wary of kits that involve a packet with a developer (will be blue powder in a packet) and if there is one, heed the warning about applying the solution to the 2 inches closest to your roots last as your body heat will cause the developer to work faster in that area. Failure to do so will make your hair ending up like a calico kitty and not in a good way!
I would like to know if i should highlight my hair red, if i have med/long brown hair.?
Noooo. Red's too harsh on most people. I'd go for honey or gold.
